Freight Cargo Agent - Bradley International Airport

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

- Assist customers both over the telephone and at the front counter.

- Notify customers of freight arrival and charges applied.

- Prepare documentation for inbound/outbound flights and U.S. Customs.

- Make cargo reservations for outbound flights.

- Notify/assist customers in picking-up freight and collecting the charges due.

- Sell and issue airway bills for customers and apply tariff rates.

- Operate airline computer systems to assist customers with questions or problems, including AMS.

- Meet inbound and outbound flights for document handling.

- Process and deliver documentation to U.S. Customs and other government agencies.

- Comply with all safety/security regulations.

- Coordinate all cargo related activities with clients.

- Performs routine day-to-day warehouse operations.

- Unload cargo and BUP (shipper-built unit) ULDs (unit load device container or pallet ) from trucks.

- Loads and unloads shipments into/out of containers or pallets by hand or forklift.

- Loads and secures shipments in or on truck.

- Move cargo to security screening area or stage for buildup.

- Assist with screening as necessary.

- Assist load planner with buildup and close out of ULDs for flights or trucks.

- Load outbound ULDs onto dollies for outbound flights.

- Operate Forklifts to handle cargo.

- Operate vehicles to convey ULD dollies and baggage carts to and from aircraft terminal.

- Break down cargo from flights and trucks notating cargo storage location on break down paperwork.

- Examine all cargo handled for damage or evidence of pilferage and reporting same to station management.

- Verify piece counts, weights, cargo condition and security protocols for all cargo accepted.

- Complete warehouse cargo documents as required.

- Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on forklifts and vehicles.

- Follows direction regarding delivery to airlines and/or delivery route.

- Follows procedures in handling freight, documenting and cross dock functions as well as placing freight in correct staging locations.

- Communicate with operators from other shifts.

- Responsible for keeping work area clean, performing truck inspections, and filing written reports.

- Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use.

- Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

H.S. Diploma or GED; or over 3 months up to and including 12 months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS

- If the job requires the driving any type of vehicle (other than a forklift must be forklift certified ) a Valid State Driver's License is required. (Note: Local ordinances requiring driver's licenses prevail.)

- Valid Forklift License, desired

Other requirements

- May occasionally be asked to run local errands.

- Security Clearance, (for airport security purposes) pass a 10-year background screening.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
